Joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, MP, sought Friday support of BNP to bring back home its senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman through Interpol for trial, reports BSS.
"BNP leadership should keep in mind that if any criminal is arrested through Interpol for trial at home then, there are many cases pending against Tarique Rahman. They should extend support to arrest Tarique through Interpol for trial," he said in response to BNP's demand to bring back home estranged AL leader and former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui through Interpol for trial.
Hanif said this while talking to reporters after exchanging views with Kushtia District AL leaders and workers at his PTI Road residence in Kushtia town.
"I want to say in clear-cut terms there is no scope for Abdul Latif Siddiqui to do politics with the remarks he made. Our party has, by this time, handed down him with ultimate punishment for his remarks. He has been relieved of his post in the cabinet and removed from the party. Warrant of arrest has also been issued against him," the AL leader said.
But, he went on, that there is no scope for creating unrest in the country by raising irrelevant demand to bring him back home through Interpol for trial.
Hanif categorically said that none would be allowed to mislead people on the issue relating to Abdul Latif Siddiqui.
Kushtia District Awami League (AL) general secretary Azgar Ali, City AL president Taijal Ali Khan and Awami Juba League joint convener Habibur Rahman Habib were present, among others.
