Hasina for all-party efforts to attain self-reliance in food, energy

Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina Sunday called for united post-election efforts of all political parties with bipartisan spirit to attain self-reliance in respect of national tasks like food security and energy generation, reports UNB.
The former Prime Minister (PM) made the remarks when Norwegian Ambassador in Bangladesh Ingebjorg Stofring called on her at Sudhasadan Sunday morning, when matters of the upcoming general election in Bangladesh were discussed.
“I hope, in future, all will make efforts with bipartisan spirit on national issues like attaining self-reliance in food and energy sectors,” quoting Sheikh Hasina, former Ambassador Mohammad Jamir who was present at the meet, told journalists.
Sheikh Hasina’s press secretary Abul Kalam Azad was also present during the meeting.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her hope that Norway would continue its cooperation in these sectors.
The AL president expected that the forthcoming parliamentary polls would be credible, free and fair and a level playing field would be created during the polls.
Jamir said Sheikh Hasina wanted the elections to be held in a festive mode.
Earlier, talking to newsmen, the Norwegian Ambassador said that Norway was hopeful about a free, fair and credible election in Bangladesh.
She further hoped to see peaceful environment during and after the general election.
Stofring said Norway would continue to assist Bangladesh for development of the energy sector, facing the threats of climate changes and ensuring good governance in the country.
To a question about the prevailing state of emergency, she said it was up to Bangladesh government as to how and when the state of emergency would go.
