Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has alleged that ousted Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina is plotting against the interim government.
"The fascist Sheikh Hasina is hatching conspiracies against head of the interim government Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus. I request all of you to foil their conspiracies," he said virtually from London at a discussion on National Revolution and Solidarity Day on 7 November, held at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh in the capital on Wednesday.
BNP's Dhaka city south unit arranged the event which was moderated by BNP leader Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
The acting chairman said that the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day is the guarantee of the country's independence and sovereignty. "Late president Ziaur Rahman had taken the helm of the country on November 7 in 1975."
He said November 7 (today) marks the end of three months under the interim government and this period is not enough to assess its performance.
In his speech, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the interim government to arrange the national election at the earliest after completing necessary reforms.
"We call upon you to please arrange the general election as early as possible."
He said that students as well as the masses imbued with the spirit of the Bangladeshi nationalism deposed Sheikh Hasina in an uprising.
