Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Thursday that conspiracy was going on to destabilise the campus environment across the country, reports UNB.
"Remain alert to foil all such conspiracies," she said when a delegation from Dhaka University (DU) called on her at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique led the delegation that also included, among others, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Harunur Rashid.
The Prime Minister urged the Dhaka University authority to give their best efforts for increasing the standard of education. "I know this is a tough job, but you've to do this," she said.
Another report adds: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina confirmed her government's commitment to religious harmony, and its willingness to ensure the coexistence of all religious people in country.
"People of all religions and races will live in the country with equal rights and perform their religious activities freely. We believe in this philosophy and will work to ensure it permeates our society," she said when Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad leaders called on her at the PMO on the day.
She said that Bangladesh was established on the philosophy of non-communalism and people from all walks of life, irrespective of religion and race, had participated in the Liberation War.
She said that in Bangladesh people of all religions would perform their religious activities without any hindrance.
Hasina said that it was only after 2001 that the then BNP-Jamaat government started oppressing minorities, progressives and AL activists.
She said that during that phase, incidents pertaining to abolishing mandirs and oppressing women increased at an alarming rate.
Regarding the demands from the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad leaders, the Prime Minister said that her government would hold dialogues with the concerned parties before formulating the Vested Property Act.
