FE REPORT | January 10, 2024 00:00:00

The High Court on Tuesday issued a stay order on the gazette notification of the results of the national election for the Dhaka-4 parliamentary constituency.

The court asked the Election Commission (EC) not to publish any gazette regarding the result of the constituency until disposal of an application filed by Advocate Sanjida Khanam, an Awami League nominated candidate.

The HC at the same time directed the EC to dispose of the application within 10 days, after holding an inquiry by a probe body into the allegations raised by Sanjida Khanam that irregularities took place in 18 polling stations of the parliamentary seat.

The High Court bench of Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman and Justice Md Bashir Ullah passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Sanjida Khanam.

Lawyer Shah Monjurul Hoque and others appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Sanjida Khanam.

After the voting, the EC declared independent candidate Awlad Hossain as winner in the constituency.
