The High Court (HC) on Monday directed the Election Commission (EC) to accept the nomination paper of National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Nusrat Tabassum for the reserved women's seat election to the Jatiya Sangsad and take necessary steps in accordance with the law, reports BSS.
The HC bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order along with a rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Nusrat Tabassum, challenging the EC's decision to cancel her nomination.
Earlier, the EC cancelled her nomination for the reserved women's seat on April 22, as she submitted her nomination paper 19 minutes past the deadline.
Meanwhile, the EC upheld the decision of the returning officer to cancel the candidacy of NCP's Monira Sharmin for a woman's reserved seat in parliament as three years have not yet passed since her resignation from government service.
