HC grants bail to Moudud, Abbas in graft cases

The High Court (HC) Monday granted bail for three months to former BNP ministers Moudud Ahmed and Mirza Abbas in corruption cases filed under the clean-up drive launched by the interim regime, reports UNB.brGranting them the interim bail, a vacation HC Division Bench comprising Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Mamnoon Rahman also stayed the proceedings of the cases.brMoudud, also a BNP stalwart, secured bail in a tax-evasion case and a new case filed on August 27 on charge of stashing away Tk 22 million (2.2 crore) in a bank with forged documents.brAbbas got bail in a graft case filed against him on charge of selling out 18 abandoned government houses in a fake auction.brOn March 29 last year, the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Motijheel police station against Abbas, ex-commerce minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Harris Chowdhury, political secretary to former prime minister Khaleda Zia, three former secretaries and a number of high officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) and the Power Development Board (PWD).
