The High Court (HC) granted on Monday six months' ad interim bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a murder case filed with Ramna thana, reports UNB.

The HC bench comprising Justice Md Borhanuddin and Justice K M Kamrul Kader passed the order upon a plea for Fakhrul's bail.

The court also issued a rule upon the government to explain why Fakhrul should not be granted permanent bail in the case and asked a reply to the rule in four weeks.

"Now there is no legal bar to release Fakhrul from jail," said his lawyer Adv Sagir Hosssain Lyon.

On November 30 last year, Ramna thana filed a case against 50-60 unidentified persons in connection with the killing of one Habibur Rahman in a petrol-bomb attack on a bus on the VIP road at Malibagh in the capital.

Although Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's name was not among those alleged in the FIR of the case, his name was later included as an instigator to the incident.
