The High Court (HC) Monday issued a contempt rule asking three top bureaucrats, including two secretaries, to explain in two weeks why they should not be individually punished for non-compliance with its orders, reports UNB.
The trio contemners are Establishment Secretary Iqbal Mahmud, Housing and Public Works Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Chief Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) Rafiqul Islam.
Upon a petition filed by four deprived PWD employees, a division bench comprising Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana and Justice M Shamsul Huda passed the orders.
On July 30 last year, a High Court division bench, following a writ petition, ordered the government to regularise 131 low-paid work-charged employees working at the PWD for over two decades.
Emerging from the court, counsel for the petitioners Badrudduza Badal told the news agency that the petitioners had no alternative but to file contempt-of-court petition for seeking justice as the government did not comply with the High Court orders.
