Hearing on Bijoy TV corruption case starts

CHITTAGONG, Jan 15 (UNB): Hearing of Bijoy TV corruption case filed against Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and two others started in the Divisional Special Judge's Court here today (Tuesday).
On the first day, two main witnesses - Abu Mohammad Arif Siddique, deputy director of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) of Chittagong, and Haniful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chittagong Kotwali police station, made their depositions before the court.
Divisional Judge SM Solaiman took depositions of the two witnesses.
Earlier on May 27 last year, ACC filed the case against Mayor Mohiuddin and Chief Executive Engineer of CCC M Imtiaj Hossain and its Chief Engineer Muktar Alam on charge of misappropriation of Tk 8.0 million while setting up the Bijoy TV channel.
All the accused, who are detained in prisons, were present on the dock during the hearing of the corruption case.
Charges in the case had been framed on January 13 after police submitted a charge sheet against them on November 22, last year.
