Hearing on Khaleda\\\'s leave to appeal Nov 6

The Appellate Division on Sunday fixed November 6 for hearing the leave to appeal filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia against a High Court verdict upholding the trial court order on charge-framing in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, reports UNB.
The full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain, fixed the date in response to an appeal filed by the lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for rescheduling the date of hearing on the leave to appeal by Khaleda Zia.  The hearing on the petition for leave-to-appeal will take place in the regular bench of the Supreme Court.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam for the government. Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon, Barrister Zainul Abedin and Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali stood for the defendant.
Earlier, on October 14, Khaleda Zia filed the leave to appeal petition with a vacation chamber court of Justice M Abdul Wahhab Miah who had fixed November 27 for hearing the petition ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid, also an investigation officer of the case, pressed charges against the accused on January 16, 2012.  Besides, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, now living in the UK after securing bail, and four others of misappropriating over Tk 21 million which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
On August 5, 2010, ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid submitted a charge sheet to the court in the case against six people, including the BNP chairperson.
