KUSHTIA, Apr 18 (UNB): Observing that the government will not spare Hefajat chief Allama Ahmed Shafi for praising it and Awami League (AL), Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said Friday he must apologise for his anti-women remarks.
"Hefajat ameer Allama Ahmed Shafi won't be spared. He must openly seek apology for comparing women with tamarind and delivering sermons that girls should stop going to schools after Class-IV," Inu said.
He was replying to a question at a mass discussion at the Kushtia Municipality auditorium.
Abdus Salam, assistant headmaster of Bahadurpur Secondary School at Bheramara, raised the question saying whether Allama Shafi's praise for AL is an indication of any understanding between the two.
The minister further said: "Allama Shafi is an enemy of democracy and women. So the claim about the understanding is not right."
The discussion titled, 'Peace, Development and the Advancement of Democracy', was organised by Mass Communication Department under the Information Ministry.
