A Dhaka court Sunday charged former communications minister Nazmul Huda and his wife Sigma Huda with taking a car in bribe from a businessman, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka metropolitan sixth assistant sessions judge Shafiul Azam framed the charges against them in their presence. The accused pleaded innocent in court.
The judge set Feb 14 to record testimonies in the case, filed by transport businessman GM Siraj on July 29, 2007 with Dhanmondi Police Station.
Siraj, owner of Cab Express, said the then communications minister demanded two cars from him on Feb 23, 2003 to be used for the weekly "Khoborer Ontoraley" published by his wife.
Huda threatened to shut his business after Siraj had expressed his inability to comply.
According to case details, on Feb 27, 2003, the businessman gave Huda a car worth Tk 0.39 million (3.95 lakh) and promised to give the other one later.
The charge sheet was submitted in the case on Sep 28 last year.
