Dismissing the defence counsel's discharge plea, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 indicted Monday Obaidul Huq alias Abu Taher and Ataur Rahman alias Noni of Netrakona district for their alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, reports UNB.
Passing the order, the three-member tribunal, headed by its chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim, also set April 5 to begin the formal trial.
The tribunal framed charges against Taher and Noni, members of infamous Razakar, an auxiliary force of the Pakistan occupation army, on six counts that include killing, genocide, persecution and vandalism.
On August 12 in 2014, police arrested the two war crimes accused from Netrakona hours after the tribunal issued a warrant for their arrest following a prosecution petition.
Ali Reza Kanchan, a nephew of martyred freedom fighter Badiuzzaman Mukta, filed a case in 2010 with the judicial magistrate's court of Netrakona, accusing a dozen anti-liberation forces, including Taher and Noni.
After recording an initial statement of the complainant, the magistrate forwarded the case to the International Crimes Tribunal.
Advocate Mukhlesur Rahman Badal appeared for the prosecution.
Meanwhile, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 issued Monday arrest warrant against eight Jamaat leaders of Jamalpur for committing crimes against humanity in 1971, reports BSS.
The tribunal issued the warrant after accepting a plea made by the prosecutor. The tribunal set March 30 for submitting progress report on investigation against them.
