The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has issued arrest warrants for 24 individuals, including former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak and former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, in a case filed over alleged crimes against humanity they committed in the capital's Mohammadpur during the July Mass Uprising, reports BSS.

The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, passed the order after taking cognizance of the formal charge filed against 28 accused in the case, and set January 29 for producing them before the tribunal.

The court also sent four leaders of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) -- Naimul Hasan Russel, Sajjad Hossain, Omar Faruk, and Fazle Rabbi -- to jail, after showing them arrested in the case.

After the order, Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam told journalists that at the instigation of the accused, and with their direct and indirect presence, gunfire was opened on innocent students and members of the public during the July Mass Uprising.
