Iftekhar expresses concern over attacks on Bangladeshi workers in Maldives

Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury has expressed "great concern" over the alleged attacks on Bangladeshi workers in the Maldives, which had resulted in death of a worker.
In a letter to the Maldives' foreign minister, he has urged "to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of Bangladeshi workers in the Maldives", according to a foreign ministry press release, reports BSS.
The foreign adviser also asked for "enhanced measures" in this respect, referring to the "mutual trust and understanding that are the hallmarks of our bilateral relations".
Iftekhar Ahmed also spoke to the Bangladesh High Commissioner in Male Mijarul Quayes over telephone Thursday and directed him to constantly monitor the situation and report on it.
The High Commissioner told the foreign adviser that the Maldives authorities had assured him that the incident was being "thoroughly investigated" and the "culprits would be punished".
