Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury has expressed his satisfaction over the outcome of recently concluded Bangladesh-India foreign secretary-level meetings.
"I believe our two foreign secretaries did an excellent job in addressing the issues of interest to both our countries and taking them a step forward towards amicable and mutually acceptable solutions," he said while talking to the media following talks between foreign secretaries of the two countries, reports UNB.
The adviser said that the Foreign Office Consultations followed political level contacts between the two countries - discussions between Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and between Pranab Mukherjee and himself.
"Our method of resolving bilateral issues with other countries is to establish appropriate mechanism, and then to consult and negotiate," he added.
Bangladesh believes that goodwill and understanding are key factors in diplomacy and not acrimony and mistrust, he pointed out.
"At all times, the sovereignty of our country will be protected in accordance with the aspirations of our people and in all our relationships with other countries… this principle will remain central," he added.
