RAJSHAHI, June 10 (BSS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Noor Muhammad has said that the police forces should earn confidence and trust of the general masses as well as the state.
"Police must be accountable and transparent to the state and the people as well as they are the servant of the republic," the IGP said while exchanging views with the civil society members and the media men here today.
"Earlier, we had said on many matters for the greater interest of people but could not implement those properly due to political interference. But time has now come to execute the necessary tasks for the welfare of people", Noor Muhammad said adding that police should now prove themselves as the friends of the people.
He termed the police as the symbol of confidence and trust and said people's cooperation along with due role by media was very essential to prove it as at the grassroots level.
Works on necessary reform in the police force are in progress aimed at bringing complete and skilled professionalism in it. "We are remaining in zero tolerance against any irregularity and corruption of any police member irrespective of rank and position".
In this context, he categorically said stern action would be taken against those found to be involved in any corruption and bribery. He sought effective cooperation of media men to bring transparency in the police services.
Among others, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) AKM Shahidul Haque, Commissioner-in-charge of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Abul Kashem, Superintendent of Police (SP) Didar Ahmed and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director Lieutenant Colonel Shamsuzzaman Khan were also present at the meeting.
