Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haq asked the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday to intensify its drive in the city to arrest muggers, extortionists and members of 'Malam Party' and 'Ogyan party (dope party),' reports UNB.

The IGP gave the order during a meeting at the conference room of Police Headquarters on Sunday. DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia and senior police officers attended the meeting.

Sources at the Police Headquarters said the top police boss said the activities of criminals, especially of muggers, extortionists and members of 'Malam Party' and 'Ogyan party' usually mark a rise during Ramadan and Eid.

He said the police will have to perform additional duty to ensure peaceful celebrations of the upcoming Eid. "Ensuring people's joy is our pleasure. That's why officers have to remain active round the clock in the field," the IGP said adding that the senior officers have to increase their monitoring.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman informed the IGP that the DB police have already arrested a number of muggers and extortionists as well as members of 'Malam Party' and 'Ogyan party.'
