Accusing the government of accelerating the trial process of Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases filed against Khaleda Zia with an evil motive, BNP feared Tuesday that its chairperson is unlikely to get justice in the two cases, reports UNB.

The party also threatened that it will take to the streets over the issue alongside its demand for holding a fresh election under a non-party administration if the 'false and politically motivated' cases are not withdrawn immediately.

"The two cases were filed to belittle our leader Khaleda Zia and keep her away from politics. We demand the government immediately withdraw the cases. We'll go for  movement on this specific issue if good sense doesn't prevail upon the government to drop the cases," said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Addressing a press conference at the BNP's Nayapaltan central office, he further said, "There's no doubt that the cases were filed with a political and heinous motive. So, we alongside legal battle will continue our movement on the streets. People will give a befitting reply to the government's all plots when people's democratic and basic rights will be established and a congenial atmosphere ensured for fair trial."

Fakhrul claimed that the allegations brought against Khaleda in the two cases are baseless, false and fabricated. "Khaleda Zia would have been relieved of the cases with honour had there been justice in the country. The way the trial processes of the two cases are being conducted our hope for getting justice is fading fast."

The BNP leader alleged that the government has got desperate to complete the trial of the two cases fast violating rules, regulations and norms of the judiciary. "The two cases were transferred to a special court. We think this is part of the government's conspiracy."

The BNP spokesman came down hard on the government for what he said changing the judge of the special court dealing with the two graft cases against Khaleda.

Meanwhile, Khaleda will appear before the makeshift court set up at the Bakshibazar Alia Madrasah playground this (Wednesday) noon for the deposition.

Khaleda Zia's lawyer advocate Sanaullah Mia said the BNP chief will go to the court around 12 noon.

Party sources said the leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies have a plan to stage a big showdown at Bakshibazar and its adjacent areas centring the arrival of their leader in the court.

The BNP high-ups asked the party men to peacefully stage the showdown avoiding confrontation with the law enforcers.
