BNP chairperson's adviser Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said Friday the budget for fiscal year 2014-15 placed by an 'illegal regime' will not be acceptable to people, reports UNB.

"This regime is illegitimate as it has assumed office snatching people's voting right. The illegal government has placed the national budget in parliament. We reject this illegal budget," he said.

He was addressing a roundtable discussion titled 'The new government of Narendra Modi: How should be Bangladesh-India ties' arranged by Nagorik Forum at the Jatiya Press Club.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed a Tk 2,50,506 crore budget for fiscal year 2014-15 in parliament Thursday.

Criticising the government, Amir Khasru said people have no confidence in it. "Though they had very little support before the January 5 election, they lost it further by holding the election.  "Now they're in office by force."

He urged BNP leaders and activists to take all-out preparations for waging a strong movement to force the current government to quit.

The BNP chairperson's adviser was critical of the immediate past Indian Congress-led government for what he said backing an unelected government in Bangladesh.

"A quarter of the Congress government supported the unelected government in Bangladesh and used it. A democratic country like India should not have such policy towards its close neighbour," he observed.

Mentioning that Narendra Modi government came to power with a big mandate through a fair election, Amir Khashru said they believe that the new Indian government will shift from Congress government's stance about the current illegal regime in Bangladesh.

Addressing the programme, BNP vice chairman Shah Moazzem Hossain said this budget is illegal as it was placed by an illegal regime. "As an illegal father's son is illegal, the illegitimate government's budget is also illegal."

Another report adds: BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah said Friday the current 'illegal' government placed the national budget for fiscal 2014-15 for plundering public money instead of doing people welfare.

"This illegal government has no democratic or constitutional right to impose tax on people. The proposed budget is meant for plundering public money," he said this while addressing a human chain programme organised by Aparajeya Bangladesh in front of the National Press Club in the city Friday.

The BNP leader also said the budget was formulated in a way so that ministers, MPs and ruling party men can pocket public money.

He said this budget will not get legitimacy until a pro-people government is established in the country through a fair election under a non-party caretaker government.

Meanwhile, another BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said the proposed budget for fiscal 20014-15 will remain written as a bad example in the country's history as it was placed by an illegal government.

"The illegal government's illegal budget will be washed away in the face of mass upsurge," he told a discussion.

Jatiyatabadi Bandhu Dal arranged the discussion, marking the 33rd death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

He alleged that the Prime Minister has committed a contempt of court offence by criticising the High Court judges for their order to arrest three Rab officials for their reported involvement in Narayanganj seven murders.

Pointing at the HC judges, Gayeshwar said, "Issue an order for the arrest of Sheikh Hasina. It's now the demand of the country's 16 crore people."

He also alleged that the ruling party leaders are conducting false propaganda to malign the Zia family to gain their political purpose.
