Improvement of higher edn standard stressed

Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Dr AK Azad Chowdhury Wednesday underscored the need for development of quality of higher education to contribute to world civilization, reports BSS. "Improvement of standard of higher education is very essential to contribute to world civilisation," he said while addressing the inaugural function of a workshop as chief guest. The workshop on "the Project for Development of Standard of Higher Education" was held at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University auditorium in Gazipur. Prof Azad urged all to play an important role so that Bangladesh could be turned into a middle income group country by 2021. "The universities would work for the country's self-reliance in food and enrichment of knowledge," he hoped. With Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr Md Abdul Mannan Akand in the chair, the function was also addressed, by UGC members Prof Dr Amina Begum and Prof Mohibur Rahman, Director of the Project for Development of Standard of Higher Education Kaniz Fatema and Dean of the Fisheries Faculty of the university Prof Md Mahbubur Rahman. As many as 40 teachers including deans of different faculties and departments, heads of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University took part in the daylong workshop.
