A three-member parliamentary subcommittee was formed Sunday to scrutinize the procedures of increasing the number of specialized doctor posts in medical colleges.
Headed by State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahed Malek, the panel will report findings and recommendations to the parliamentary standing committee on the Health Ministry.
The subcommittee was formed at a meeting of the standing committee, which recommended enhancing the budgetary allocation for the sector for upgrading and expansion of health services up to the rural areas.
Other members of the subcommittee are Mujibur Rahman Fakir and Yunus Ali Sarker.
The meeting also suggested that the ministry take necessary steps to modernize Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
Giving incentives to gynecologists and anesthetists and increasing facilities for the doctors posted in rural areas were also recommended.
The committee recommended that the ministry take necessary steps to complete the recruitment process of all levels of employees in the vacant posts under the family planning directorate.
The meeting was informed that on December 2 a total of 60 posts of specialized doctors were created for Sheikh Sahera Khatun Medical College Hospital in Gopalganj. Of the posts, 23 doctors have been attached there.
"Besides, steps have been taken to give postings of professors and assistant professors in biochemistry, physiology, medicine, cardiology, and psychiatry departments on an urgent basis," the meeting was told.
Also, the tender process for the Essential Drugs Company Ltd will be completed within next one month.
Committee chairman Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim chaired the 3rd meeting of the committee at the parliament building.
Other committee members present at the meeting included Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, State Minister for Health Zahed Malek, AFM Ruhal Haque, Yunus Ali Sarker, Nizam Uddin Hazari, Shariful Islam Jinnah and Selina Begum.
