Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said India has supported Sheikh Hasina for its own interests, ignoring the will and aspirations of Bangladeshi people.
"You (India) are a democratic country. But you had extended supports to the autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina by denying Bangladeshi people's will, aspirations, and their rights to think and live as per their wishes," he said while inaugurating relief distribution activities of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Prochar Dal in front of the party's central office at Naya Paltan in the capital on Monday.
Highlighting that Sheikh Hasina led to the death of people, including innocent children, Rizvi said, "Despite these why you (India) are supporting her?
He also said that Hasina didn't to her best to preserve the country's democracy and other state institutions, and expressed his disappointment that India has been supporting her.
"India fully supported farcical elections held under Sheikh Hasina regime in Bangladesh," he stated.
He said that law enforcing agencies personnel upon the directives of Sheikh Hasina fired shots and killed children, students, and people during the recent Anti Discrimination Student Movement.
He also said that the ministers, members of parliament, influential people, and big contractors during the Sheikh Hasina government have siphoned off billions of taka from Bangladesh to abroad just in the name of mega projects like Padma Bridge and flyovers.
Mr Ruhul Kabir Rizvi further said that private television channels like Diganta TV, Islamic TV and others were shut down by the deposed Sheikh Hasina regime.
He said that people of the country still don't know about the professions of Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and her family members living in abroad.
Mr Rizvi said that BNP leaders and activists have struggled during the Anti Discrimination Student Movement over the last 16 years for restoring democracy in the country despite the previous government's torture, oppression, suppression and landed them (BNP party men) in jail.
