A training programme for the much-awaited industrial police force began Sunday, so that they can start working soon to keep the country's key RMG belts peaceful.
Home Minister Sahara Khatun formally inaugurated the training programme at Mirpur Police Staff College, where 26 police officials, including additional superintendent of police, assistant superintendent of police and inspectors, would participate.
During the inauguration ceremony, she said the force will be initially deployed at the country's four apparel industrial zones - in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Chittagong - for providing security to the sector that fetched nearly 80 per cent of the country's total export last year.
"Initiatives to bring vehicles and other equipment for the special security wing are underway," the home minister said.
The 2,990-member-allocated force will preliminary perform their duties with 1,580 personnel, divided into four units. They would be deployed at the major readymade garment (RMG) hubs to prevent possible violence.
