Inqilab Moncho brought out a protest march on the Dhaka University campus on Friday pressing for identification of those involved in the killing of its spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, swift repatriation of the accused who fled abroad, and initiation of a speedy trial process.
The march began after Jumma prayers from the premises of Dhaka University Central Mosque. It terminated with a short rally at the foot of the Raju Memorial Sculpture.
At the rally, speakers said justice must be ensured for the killing and vowed that they would not return home until the demand for justice was met.
Inqilab Moncho central committee member G A Sabbir said the organisation had given the government one week's ultimatum after their previous protest march.
They had urged the government not to engage in any "delaying tactics" and to clearly state within what timeframe the accused would be brought back from India and a proper investigation would be conducted.
"The state should have contacted us and informed us of a specific timeline. They should have assured us that the killers would be brought to justice within that period," he said.
Rajshahi University Central Students' Union General Secretary (GS) Salahuddin Ammar alleged that both the interim government and the current administration were using the mystery surrounding Osman Hadi's killing as a "political tool."
He said whenever crises emerge in the country, such as rising fuel prices, deaths of children from diseases, or ferry accidents, the government highlights its efforts to bring back Hadi's killer. "The government must ensure justice for this murder," he added.
