The leaders of Bangladeshi activists and rights-based organizations Tuesday jointly urged the government to form an inter-ministerial taskforce to resolve anti-worker Malaysian visa policy, reports UNB.
The leaders said the Malaysian government deprived Bangladeshi expatriates by discriminating against them.
They came with the plea at a press conference at the National Press Club Tuesday.
ASK, BOMSA, BRAC, Bangladesh Construction and Wood Workers' Association, HRDIC, IMA, Research Foundation, Manusher Jonno Foundation, OKUP, RMMRU, WARBE Development Foundation jointly organized the press conference.
The organizations demanded of the Malaysian government to reinstate visas which have already been issued to Bangladeshi workers and block all channels of exploitation of Bangladeshi workers.
BRAC director (training department) Shipa Hafiza, Prof Tasnim Siddique, WARBE Development Foundation chairman Syed Saiful Haque, among others, addressed the press conference.
Prof Tasnim Siddique said the government has no realistic policy on expatriates in the absence of initiative in exploiting huge market possibilities in European countries.
She said Bangladeshi expatriates should concentrate on semi-skilled job. "The government should set up an integrated policy on Bangladeshi expatriates with experts' opinion to face economic recession," she said.
Tasnim urged the government to build up skilled manpower of nursing and hospitality services through private institutions, as the government could not alone train such manpower.
