Accusing BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia of "nurturing militancy and terrorism" in the country, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu Tuesday asked her to shun that vicious path and join the march towards democracy by severing her links with the anti- liberation militant forces, reports BSS.

"You (Khaleda) will be able to board into the train of democracy again if you come back by shunning the path of terrorism and violence. Otherwise, the people will reject you forever" he said while taking part a general discussion on the thanks giving motion of the President's speech in parliament.

Coming down heavily on the BNP chief, Inu said Khaleda Zia has been behaving abnormally by failing to get into the train of democracy through keeping her party (BNP) away from contesting the 10th parliamentary polls.

Now, she (Khaleda) is hatching conspiracy against the ongoing democracy and the government as well by patronising militancy and terrorism in a bid to destabilise the country, he added.

"She (Begum Zia) did not contest in the last election willingly as she wanted to fish in the troubled water by taking side with Pakistan and patronizing militancy and terrorism across the country," he added.

As part of her deep-rooted conspiracies to foil the ongoing trial of war criminals, Inu said the BNP chief unleashed a reign of terror across Bangladesh before and after the last general election when many innocent people were burnt to death by pouring patrol in moving vehicles.

'Even women and children were not secured in the hands of the BNP-Jamaat terrorists during the period," he said adding that they also cut down thousands of trees across the country to foil the election. But, their conspiracies have gone in vein, he added.

Inu, also the President of Jatiya Samjtantaik Dal (JSD), a component of the Awami League-led alliance government, said that the BNP chairperson has been misleading people by speeding falsehood and distorting the facts of the country's hard-earned independence and sovereignty.

He said due to her controversial role against the independent Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia has been emerged as the mother of "razakars" (anti-liberation elements) while Pakistani junta Yeahiya and Major Zia (former president) as their fathers.

Describing Zia, the former President, as the number four "Mirjafar" or betrayer of the country, he said the role of Yeahiya, Mostaque and Zia were to protect the anti-liberation "razakar" and rehabilitating them in the country's main stream politics in a bid to destroy the spirit of the country's Great War of Liberation.

Mentioning Khaleda Zia's recent remarks, he said she (Begum Zia) has now waged a war against the country, its people and above all pro-liberation forces by making harsh remarks and spreading "falsehood" against them.

He urged the patriotic forces to get united to counter the anti-liberation forces and their mentor Khaleda Zia to protect the country's hard-earned independence and sovereignty.

The minister in his speech also referred various successes of the present Awami League-led grand alliance government in different sectors especially in health, education, agriculture, power and economic sectors.

Taking part in the discussion, Jatiya Party lawmaker and Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud made it clear that Jatiya Party had joined the last parliamentary polls in line with the constitutional obligation.

"If the election was not held, an unconstitutional force might come to power," he said

Criticising BNP for resorting to terrorism in a bid to foil the 10th parliamentary polls, he said Khaleda Zia could not be succeeded to wage her anti-government movement before the polls due to lack of spontaneous participation of people in it.
