Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu Friday called for changing mindset towards women for establishing their rights in the society, reports BSS.

"We have to establish women rights by ensuring their equal participation in all development sectors," the Minister said this while speaking at a seminar on "Position of Women in Journalism" organised by Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra at the Jatiya Press Club in the city Friday.

Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Altaf Mahmud, general secretary Quddus Afrad and general secretary of another faction Jahangir Alam Prodhan spoke the seminar with Monowara Monur in the chair.

Mr Inu said communalism, fanaticism and militancy are the main obstacles towards establishing women's rights. "All should work together to eliminate the elements to ensure equal participation of women in society," he said.

Referring to the notable progress of women empowerment, he said the present government has been working sincerely to establish women's rights through their empowerment in different sectors.

Now women are enjoying more freedom and dignity due to time-befitting initiatives taken by the government, Inu added.
