IOs seek to bring KCC mayor case under EPRs

KHULNA, Nov 7 (UNB): Investigation officers (IOs) of the cases filed against Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman have applied to the Ministry of Home Affairs to bring three of the seven cases under the Emergency Power Rules (EPRs).
A Tk 0.29 million (2.9 lakh) extortion case, one arms case and another extortion case of Tk 0.45 million are among the cases filed against the KCC mayor, arrested from his residence in Dhaka on November 2.
Meanwhile, KCC public relations officer Sarder Abu Taher, engineer Moshi-uzzaman Wadud and ex-assistant accounts officer Sheikh Abdul Ahad went into hiding after extortion cases were filed against them.
The police continued their raids on the houses of the KCC officials to arrest them.
Officer-in-Charge of the Khulna Sadar thana M Mesbahuddin told journalists at his office Wednesday noon that Mayor Tayebur Rahman confessed to them during remand that he was involved in irregularities as made in the cases.
The KCC mayor will be produced before the court tomorrow (Thursday) on completion of his five-day police remand.
