Iqbal for formulating curriculum to meet demands of labour mkts

A time-befitting curriculum would be formulated for the country's training institutes to meet the demands of labour markets both for home and abroad.
Adviser for Labour and Employment M Anwarul Iqbal said this while speaking at a meeting on the introduction of diploma courses in different trades to raise skilled manpower in the city Thursday, reports BSS.
"Such efforts will help strengthen the national economy by raising skilled and well-trained manpower side by side with earning huge foreign currency," he said.
The adviser also stressed the need for creating efficient workforce keeping in mind its huge overseas demand in the industries like readymade garments and nursing.
In this connection, he asked the training institutes, BGMEA and BKMEA to make coordinated efforts to this effect.
Two separate committees were formed---one headed by labour secretary to make a report to assess the demand of the labour market at home and abroad---and another headed by secretary of the ministry of expatriate welfare to formulate course curriculum to meet the demand of the labour market.
The meeting also decided that the committees would formulate necessary recommendations in this connection within three weeks.
Among others, Education Secretary M Momtajul Islam, Labour and Employment Secretary Ashfaq Hamid, Acting Secretary of the Chief Adviser's Office Kazi M Aminul Islam and Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Employment and Expatriate Welfare M Abdul Motin Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
