Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki Sunday phoned his Bangladesh counterpart for discussion on bilateral matters, when the government of Iran gave assurance of all necessary support for the flood victims in the country, reports UNB.
The Iranian foreign minister called Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury on telephone Sunday afternoon. He expressed deep sympathy for the floods.
Iftekhar and his Iranian counterpart also spoke about their mutual resolve to strengthen bilateral political and economic cooperation.
They also agreed to meet on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations (UN) General Assembly session in New York in September.
Speaking to the media on their discussion, the foreign adviser said that Bangladesh and Iran had been working together to promote greater global understanding across cultural divides.
Bangladesh sponsors the 'Culture of Peace' resolution at the UN General Assembly and Iran leads the consultations on 'Dialogue Among Civilisations', he said.
"There is, therefore, much that we can do together in this field, and we hope to do just that," he added.
