The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has accused the government of giving India railway corridor in the name of transit and Asian highway, which will permanently enslave Bangladeshis to India.
"In the name of transit and Asian highway, Sheikh Hasina is giving India corridor, which is an evil design to make the people of Bangladesh slaves of India perpetually."
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the comments during a regular press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters on Wednesday.
Signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India for railway corridor is the reflection of that concept, according to him.
"The people of Bangladesh will never accept Indian subjugation. We got independence through sacrificing an ocean of blood, so it won't be possible to weaken our independence," maintained Mr Rizvi.
Allowing railway corridor to India through Bangladesh territory is tantamount to ignoring the people of Bangladesh and their independence.
"It was not possible for India to get transit during the tenure of the BNP," asserted Mr Rizvi.
Giving India rail corridor would help transport arms and ammunition to its north-eastern states and thus the security of Bangladesh would be at stake, he uttered.
"The people of Bangladesh will never accept any MoUs signed with India in the interests of protecting their country's independence and sovereignty."
The BNP leader alleged that India was not sincere in resolving the sharing of waters of common rivers, stopping the killing of Bangladeshis across borders and addressing trade imbalance.
He cited the government's stance on corruption as 'a national joke'.
"If we see newspapers, we'll see names of Benazir, Matiur, Asaduzzaman and their likes. How these great leaders of corruption held high positions in the government? Will the PM give an answer?"
Mr Rizvi questioned whether the secret information about those cruel police officials was being divulged following the share-giving disputes.
He slammed attacks on leaders and activists in Natore as part of the district BNP's movement demanding immediate release of detained chairperson Khaleda Zia.
"The Anti-Corruption Commission has no strong backbone. But it is harassing the opponents at the ruling Awami League's directives."
Mr Rizvi accused the ACC of concealing corruption committed by influentials over the last 16 years.
The countrymen do not believe that the real picture of corruption by a section of police and government officials will be dug out by the ACC, according to him.
