The state-appointed defence counsel admitted Monday the horrendous atrocities that had taken place in the villages of Mathbaria of Pirojpur during the Liberation War, but his client Engineer A Jabbar, now on the run, had no complicity in the war crimes, reports UNB.
"My client has been falsely implicated in the war crimes case," claimed state defence counsel MA Hasan while making summing-up arguments on factual issues before the International Crimes Tribunal-1.
Concluding the defence case summing-up arguments, the tribunal adjourned for Wednesday for law-point arguments.
On August 14, the tribunal framed charges against Abdul Jabbar for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War after fulfilling the requirement of law for trying a fugitive accused, including the appointment of state defence counsel.
