The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will pronounce judgment on fugitive war crimes accused Engineer Abdul Jabbar of Pirojpur, an ex-MP of Jatiya Party (Ershad), today (Tuesday), reports UNB.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, fixed the date t Monday) as the matter came up on the cause list for order.
Eighty-two days back, the tribunal kept the judgment pending to be delivered any day, after closing the summing-up arguments on factual and law points from both sides on December 3, 2014.
During the trial, the prosecution produced 24 prosecution witnesses (PWs), including senior ASP Helal Uddin, investigation officer of the case, to prove the charges brought against the fugitive accused.
On August 14, 2014, the tribunal framed charges on five counts against Abdul Jabbar for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War after fulfilling the requirement of law for trying a fugitive accused, including the appointment of state defence counsel.
According to the prosecution, fugitive Jabbar is believed to have been living in the USA.
