Authorities have extended the detention of Awami League general secretary Abdul Jalil by three months, a senior prison official said Thursday.
It was the third extension since June 3 when he was sent to jail.
Deputy inspector general (prisons) Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told bdnews24.com that they had received necessary papers on the extension from authorities. The new timeline takes effect Thursday, he said.
Security officials arrested Jalil from his Mercantile Bank headquarters in Motijheel commercial area on May 28. Later, authorities charged him with giving "inflammatory statements".
Currently he is being treated at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University hospital as he has long been suffering from health complications.
