Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the Supreme Court (SC) verdict upholding the death sentence of war criminal Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed, evoked a very poor response on Wednesday, reports UNB.
No major incident of violence was reported from any part of the country, except some stray incidents.
The shutdown that began at 6:00 am on Wednesday ends at 6:00 am today (Thursday).
In the capital city, Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out surprise processions in support of the shutdown in different areas, including Dhanmondi, Khilgaon, Kafrul, Mirpur, Jatrabari, Sabujbagh, Lalbagh, Badda, Tejgaon, Rampura and Mouchak.
Vehicular movement in the city was almost normal as additional policemen were deployed at important points to fend off any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Jamaat Dhaka City unit Ameer Rafiqul Islam Khan alleged that law enforcers obstructed their processions and arrested their leaders and activists in the capital and some other parts of the country.
According to UNB reports,  Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out processions at different parts of the country while police arrested a number of activists of the Islamist party.
