Jamaat leader jailed for planning ‘sabotage’

SATKHIRA, Mar 24 (UNB): A mobile court sentenced on Tuesday a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami to one year's imprisonment on charge of planning subversive activities.
The convict was identified as Maulana Shafiqul Islam, nayeb-e-ameer of Sadar upazila unit of Jamaat and son of Haran Mondal of Mahmudpur village in the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of police raided Gangnia area of the upazila and arrested the Jamaat leader around 1:30pm, said Tanvir Hasan, sub-inspector (SI) of Sadar thana.
