Jamaat man killed in \\\'mob attack\\\'

SATKHIRA, May 3 (UNB): A local activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed reportedly in a lynch mob attack at Deltar crossing under Debhata Upazila Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Aktar Hossain Aku (48), son of Faizul Islam of Kulia village in the Upazila.

Jalal Uddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Debhata thana, said Aku was a fugitive accused in the case for killing of Raihan, organising secretary of Debhata Upazila unit Awami League.

When locals found Aku roaming in the area, they caught him after a hot chase at about 11:30 pm and gave him a good beating, leaving him critically injured. Being informed, police rushed in and rescued him from the grip of the mob at night.

Later, he was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead at midnight.
