Claiming that their nayeb-e-ameer Delawar Hossain Sayedee has been a victim of the government's political vendetta, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami demanded Tuesday his immediate release, reports UNB.

In a statement, Jamaat acting ameer Moqbul Ahmed also urged Bangladeshis both at home and abroad and the people of Muslim world to pray to the Almighty Allah so that Sayedee does not fall victim to government's repression as the Supreme Court is going to deliver its verdict on Wednesday on an appeal challenging the death penalty given to him in a war crimes case.

On February 28 last year, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced him to death for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

Moqbul Ahmed alleged that the government filed the case against Sayedee with the International Crimes Tribunal on 'false, baseless and fabricated' charges and sentenced him based on 'false' depositions.
