FE REPORT

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) has called upon the interim government and the Election Commission (EC) to take steps to stop attacks on the party activists including women across the country by a particular party.

It also called upon the government to immediately arrest the killer of a party leader based in Jinaigati upazila of Sherpur.

Assistant Secretary General and head of Jamaat's central publicity and media wing Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubair made the demand at a press briefing at the party's central office at Mogbazar in the capital on Saturday.

He said that supporters of the particular party had been engaged in carrying out attacks on Jamaat activists including women regularly.

He said that a delegation of Jamaat would visit the EC Sunday (today) and submit a referendum that will mention how Jamaat supporters and leaders were being tortured and attacked by the particular party.

Mr Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubair further said that Jamaat believed in rules of law and politics of coexistence and did not like to take revenge on the opponents.

Meanwhile, a murder case has been filed two days after the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami leader during clashes between supporters of rival political parties in Sherpur, reports bdnews24.com.

More than 700 people have been named as accused in the case, including a BNP candidate contesting the Sherpur-3 parliamentary seat.

Police said the case was filed by the victim's wife with Jhenaigati Police Station on Friday night.
