Jamaat wants political unity to protect independence, says Taher

RANGPUR, March 18 (BSS): Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said his party wants universal unity among political forces to protect the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
He said this while speaking at an Iftar Mahfil organised by the National Doctors Forum (NDF) Rangpur unit at Checkpost Cafe 66 in the metropolis on Monday evening as the chief guest.
Dr. Taher said, "We united on August 5 last year, we became independent. We united under several slogans to build a prosperous Bangladesh this time".
"Jamaat-e-Islami wants to establish peace and prosperity in this country through the unity of all parties. Let us forget all differences and take an oath to move forward unitedly for the welfare of the country and the nation," he said.
Chaired by NDF Rangpur Medical College unit President Dr. Md. Atikuzzaman, its Secretary Dr. Maruf Hossain moderated the programme.
NDF Central Committee's Secretary General Professor Dr. Mahmud Hossain and its Rangpur Divisional unit Vice-President Dr. Mohammad Hossain attended the programme as special guests.
