The Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has called off its sit-in programme in front of the Election Commission (EC) headquarters after two consecutive days of protests.
The decision came on Monday evening after the student wing of the BNP had received assurances from EC officials regarding their allegations and grievances.
At nearly 6:00pm on the day, JCD Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib announced the cancellation of the programme.
He stated that the commission had requested them to vacate the area and promised to address their three allegations, including irregularities in postal ballots and the undue influence of a specific political group on university student union elections.
"We have been assured by the EC about the allegations," he told reporters.
"Based on their request and subsequent internal discussions, we are declaring a temporary end to the programme. However, we want to see those assurances turn into action."
He issued a stern warning against any interference in the upcoming national polls.
"If any political group or student organisation attempts to foil the national elections or force the EC into biased decision-making, Chhatra Dal showed over the last two days what it is capable of. Do not threaten us; we will do what is necessary." Addressing the crowd, Rakib further said the key issue of their agitation was ballot papers.
