JCD leader Zakir dies for torture in custody, alleges BNP

BNP alleged on Monday that Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Dhaka north city unit vice president Zakir Hossain Milon died in custody early Monday due to 'brutal torture' on him during police remand, reports UNB.
In a statement, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Milon was subjected to the government's political vengeance as it is out to protect its despotic rule by eliminating the existence of the opposition parties.
He said police arrested Milon, also the acting president of Tejgaon thana unit JCD, on March 6.
The BNP secretary general said the members of Ramna Police Station produced him before a court the following day and took him on a three-day remand on March 8.
Later, he was taken to the headquarters of the Detective Branch (DB) of police and sent to jail on Sunday.
"Zakir was injured seriously during the three consecutive day's remand and met a tragic end of his life in jail this (Monday) morning. He was pushed towards death without ensuring treatment for him in jail. We strongly condemn and protest the inhuman incident."
The BNP leader also expressed deep shock at his premature death caused by lack of treatment after torture by police.
He also prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Fakhrul said the government is continuously arresting their party leaders and inflicting brutal torture on them during remand, making them physically and mentally ill. "The current regime has got so much desperate out of its political vengeance that it has lost its minimum human sense."
