A group of activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) came under a series of attack allegedly by some leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the High Court area and on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Thursday.
Some 30 to 40 JCD leaders and activists were injured in the incident, claimed the student front of BNP.
Among them, Nahid Chowdhury whose condition was stated to be critical was rushed to Islami Bank Hospital in Kakrail.
According to the eyewitnesses, JCD leaders and activists had been gathering in the vicinity of the High Court since morning to observe the programme announced earlier in protest against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remark about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Padma Bridge.
The JCD men brought out a procession at 12.00pm from the High Court area and were marching towards Doel Chattar of Dhaka University.
At that time, BCL activists attacked them and the JCD men also chased them back.
The BCL men threw brick chips and many of them wearing helmets were also seen brandishing sticks, iron rods and firearms.
Some of the JCD activists managed to enter the High Court premises but the BCL activists chased them and beat them up there.
After a moment, members of law enforcement agencies brought the situation under control.
Akhter Hossain, convener of the DU JCD unit, said 30 to 40 leaders and activists of them were injured in the attack by BCL.
Fuad Hossain Shahadat, law affairs secretary of the BCL central unit, told the media that the JCD activists who had no studentship were trying to create unrest on the campus.
"The general students got united against these non-students and confronted them", he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, around 35 people were injured in clashes between JCD and BCL activists on the DU campus.
Pro-BNP lawyers of the Supreme Court shortly after the incident brought out a procession protesting the attack, vandalism and clash on the court premises. They demanded the resignation of the law minister and the attorney general.
