Members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) have staged a demonstration on Dhaka University campus, protesting alleged attacks on students by Islami Chhatra Shibir over graffiti dispute in Chattogram.
The procession began around 10:15 pm on Tuesday at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and marched through VC Square, Surja Sen Hall, Madhur Canteen, and the Central Mosque before concluding at Raju Memorial Sculpture with a brief rally.
At the rally, JCD Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin said if Shibir had objected to the wall writing, they could have expressed their opposition through their own message rather than resorting to violence. He further warned that any such attacks would not be tolerated.
DU unit JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas accused Shibir of constructing 'negative narratives' aimed at destabilising the academic environment on campuses. He further warned that any such conspiracy would be met with strong resistance.
The rally was conducted by DU JCD General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon. Among others, JCD central leaders Shyamal Malum, Nure Alam Bhuiyan, and Nasir Uddin also spoke.
Earlier in the day, clashes broke out in two phases over the writing of the word 'Gupta' in on the wall of Government City College in Chattogram, with both sides reportedly using sticks and sharp weapons, leaving at least 20 people injured, according to claims from both groups.
