Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders Sunday alleged that indifference and relentless partiality of the Dhaka University (DU) authorities are compelling them to go for an indefinite strike on the campus from March 29.
"We are again making an earnest request to the DU Vice-Chancellor to ensure coexistence of all students at the halls within the timeline we have stipulated otherwise we will have no alternative to enforcing strike on the campus", JCD President Azizul Bari Helal said.
JCD presented the tale of assault on and harassment of their leaders and activists by the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the DU campus at a view exchange meeting with journalists at DU Journalists' Association (DUJA) office Sunday.
Azizul Bari Helal said the BCL leaders and activists had left at least 78 JCD men injured with broken hands and legs of many of them and looted many computers and other valuables from the halls since the Awami League came to power.
He alleged the BCL was forcing the Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education abroad by destroying the congenial atmosphere at the country's educational institutions with direct assistance of Indian intelligence agency Raw.
"At least 25 educational institutions across the country have been closed sine die only for the BCL internal feud. They are attempting to destroy the total education system here as part of execution of the plot assigned by the Raw", Helal said.
The JCD president alleged the DU VC, notwithstanding, was not paying heed at all to their call to ensure peaceful environment on the campus and coexistence of all students at the halls.
When contacted, DU VC Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said, "I admit that one or two incidents of assault are taking place separately on the campus everyday. But I think most of them are for personal enmity".
However, he said a meeting of the DU provost committee has been convened today (Monday) to review the overall situation of the campus and initiate measure to ensure coexistence of all legal students at the halls.
