CHATTOGRAM, Dec 05: Police arrested Jubo League (JL) leader Debashish Pal Debu, accused in several murder cases, from the Miler Matha area in Chattogram city on Thursday.
Debu is the son of Harendra Vijay Pal, a resident of the port area.
Known as a land grabber, extortionist, and notorious terrorist, Debu is also the vice-president of the youth organisation in the port city.
Locals alleged that nobody could do business in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone area and Chittagong Port without satisfying him. He was a close associate of the absconded secretary of Chattogram City Awami League, A Z M Nasir Uddin.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar thana, Kazi Muhammad Sultan Ahsan, confirmed the arrest of Debu and said, "He is accused in more than a dozen cases including murder, extortion, and terrorism. Police will take action against him."
Police said he was involved in the mass killing in July of last year. He reportedly attacked students in the port area and GEC point area, and after the attack, he hid in the home of AZM Nasir or his brother Shamim.
