Joint forces nab ex-lawmaker

SYLHET, aOct 8 (UNB): Joint forces arrested former lawmaker from Sunamganj-5 constituency and vice-president of Sunamganj district Awami League (AL) Muhibur Rahman Manik from Jollarpar in the city Monday morning.
A team of the joint forces held Manik while coming out from the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) office at 11am after submitting his wealth statement.
Later, he was handed over to the Kotwali police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali police station Abdun Noor confirmed the arrest but declined to give details.
On March 15, 1999, Arif Haidar and Babul were killed and his cousin Abu Laich Chowdhury was injured in a bomb explosion at Manik's residence at Mondalibhog in Chhatak Upazila.
Later, he filed a case with the police. The police also filed another case against him on charge of making bombs.
On October 9, 2004, three persons, including Muhibur Rahman Manik, were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in the case filed by the police.
