Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said the Election Commission is upholding its commitments and following the legal framework to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.

"We are working in line with our commitments and constitutional duties to ensure a free, fair, and credible election," he said,

"Therefore, there is no reason to be afraid," he added.

He said in response to a question at a briefing organised by the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat for foreign election observers and media representatives at a city hotel on Wednesday.

When a journalist questioned him about the last two CECs ending up in jail for failing to perform their duties and whether he feared a similar outcome, he avoided giving a direct answer.

In his speech, the CEC said all preparations for today's (Thursday) election are complete and polling day is fully ready.

He said that presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, and polling officers will handle voting and counting at polling stations. Ballots will be cast in the presence of candidates or their agents, accredited observers, and journalists.

"Transparency is the cornerstone of our election management," AMM Nasir Uddin added.

Representatives from election bodies and international institutions from 45 countries and organizations are participating in the process.

Over 60 officials and around 330 international observers, including about 220 from the European Union, are involved.

In addition, more than 160 international journalists are independently covering the election.

"From the very beginning, we have prioritised transparency," he said, adding that journalists play a key role in spotting any irregularities.

Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah gave foreign journalists and observers a brief overview of the election management.

He stated that results for most constituencies are likely to be finalised by Friday morning.

Other Election Commissioners (EC) and top officials were also present at the programme.
